They gathered for "constant prayer"—not casual requests, but earnest, focused, unceasing intercession. This wasn't passive religiosity; it was active spiritual warfare. The Greek word suggests intense, stretching petition—prayer that refuses to let go. Like Rees Howells and his students praying through World War II, the early believers understood prayer as their primary weapon. They prayed in the middle of the night, pressing into God's presence with urgency. Such prayer avails much because it connects earth's needs with heaven's power.
