Living as a True Disciple - Day 2: Impact Beyond Yourself

Day 2: Impact Beyond Yourself
Reading: Matthew 5:14-16 and 1 John 3:16-18

Devotional:
When Dorcas died, widows surrounded her body weeping, showing garments she had made. Her life had enriched countless others through her generosity with time, talents, and resources. True disciples don't live self-focused lives; they invest in others. Jesus calls us to be light in darkness, salt that preserves and flavors. This requires intentionality—swimming against culture's self-oriented current. John's words pierce our comfortable Christianity: How can God's love abide in us if we see genuine need and close our hearts? Your life is meant to impact your world. The question isn't whether you have resources to share, but whether you'll share what you have. Let your light shine through deeds and truth, not merely words, making Christ visible to those around you.

Sunday in children church, we were making gifts for our mom’s and one of the kids got upset because theirs was not perfect, and it had to be perfect or Mom wouldn’t like it. God stopped me in that moment and spoke to my heart once again, I don’t expect a perfect person, but I want a willing person to allow MY light to shine through. At that moment I sat in a chair and scoped the child up in my arms and told them, “it doesn’t have to be perfect for mama to love it. Mom will love it because you made it. I also told them that God uses the broken things to let His light shine brighter.

nThere are so many ways that I am imperfect and there are so many times I have reminded God that I have these flaws, but God always reminds me that as long as I keep my eyes on Him, He will walk with me and guide me ever step of the way.
