Before Christ, we were spiritually dead—not merely sick, but lifeless in our trespasses. Just as Lazarus could do nothing to resurrect himself, we were powerless to change our condition. We were strangers to God's covenant, without hope, blinded by Satan, and destined for eternal separation from God. This isn't meant to discourage us, but to magnify the miracle of salvation. Understanding the depth of our need reveals the magnitude of God's grace. Today, reflect on where you were before Christ found you. What does it mean that you've been made alive together with Him? Let this truth humble you and fuel your gratitude. You didn't improve yourself—God resurrected you.
Reflection: Write down three specific ways your life was characterized by spiritual death before knowing Christ, and three ways you now experience His life.
