Day 2: The Transforming Power of God's Word
Reading: 2 Timothy 3:16-17; Psalm 119:9-11; Hebrews 4:12
Devotional:
The church at Antioch was shaped by teachers who were grounded in the Word and prophets who brought fresh direction from God. Together they represent what a healthy relationship with Scripture looks like -- deep roots and present responsiveness. God's Word is not a static document to be admired from a distance. Hebrews 4:12 describes it as living and active, penetrating to the deepest parts of a person's inner life. Psalm 119:9-11 speaks of hiding the Word in one's heart as a defense against sin. Second Timothy 3:16-17 reminds believers that Scripture equips them fully for every good work through doctrine, correction, reproof, and instruction in righteousness. The Word does not merely inform the mind. It sanctifies the life. Growth in godliness is not possible apart from consistent, serious engagement with Scripture. A church that takes the Word seriously produces people who can discern God's will, resist temptation, and walk in truth.
