Day 4: The Power of the Proclaimed Word
Reading: Romans 10:17; Acts 13:5, 7, 12
Devotional:
Three times in the account of Acts 13, the Word of God is central to what happens. It is preached in the synagogues, sought by Sergius Paulus, and ultimately the means by which he comes to faith. Paul does not rely on clever argument or political strategy. He proclaims the Word. Romans 10:17 makes clear that faith is born through hearing, and hearing through the Word of God. This removes the pressure of performance from the witness. Your great presentation does not save anyone. Your persuasive personality does not save anyone. The Word of God, proclaimed faithfully, carries the power of God to transform a human soul.
Personal Reflection:
How much of your confidence in witnessing is placed in your own ability to communicate, and how much rests in the power of the Word itself?
Practical Application:
Memorize one gospel-centered passage this week. Let the Word itself become the primary tool in your conversations rather than your own explanations about the Word.
