Day 4: The Joy That Circumstances Cannot Reach
Reading: Acts 13:48, 52; Philippians 4:4-7; John 16:22
Devotional:
Acts 13:52 is remarkable. Paul and Barnabas had just been expelled from the region. The opposition was real and the circumstances were difficult. Yet the disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit. This was not the joy of favorable circumstances. It was the joy of people who understood what had happened to them. Sin's burden had been lifted. Forgiveness was real. Eternity had changed. That kind of joy cannot be manufactured and cannot be taken away by external pressure. Philippians 4:4-7 calls believers to rejoice in the Lord, not in their surroundings. The source of Christian joy is not what is happening around you but what Christ has already done for you.
