Day 5: Every Heart Must Answer
Reading: Acts 13:45-46, 50; Matthew 13:1-23; Revelation 3:20
Devotional:
The same Gospel that produced joy in some produced hostility in others. The difference was not the message. The message was identical. The difference was the condition of the heart. The Parable of the Soils in Matthew 13 makes this plain. The seed is the same. The soil determines what happens. Pride resists the Gospel because the Gospel demands humility. To receive forgiveness, you must first admit you need it. To trust a Savior, you must first acknowledge you cannot save yourself. Rejecting the message does not change the truth of the message. The bridge is still out whether you believe the warning or not. Every person who hears God's Word responds in some way. Silence is a response. Familiarity is a response. Hostility is a response. The only question that matters is: what will you do with what you have heard?
Personal Reflection:
Has familiarity with the Gospel caused you to stop truly hearing it? What is the condition of the soil in your heart right now?
Practical Application:
Sit quietly before God today and honestly answer this question: "What is standing between me and a full surrender to Jesus Christ?" Whatever your answer is, bring it to Him now.
