Day 3: Seeing God Behind the Miracle
Reading: Acts 14:11-15; 1 Corinthians 3:6-7
Devotional:
When the crowd in Lystra witnessed the healing of the lame man, they immediately credited Paul and Barnabas. They called them Zeus and Hermes. They prepared sacrifices. They were deeply moved by something supernatural, but they directed their worship at the wrong source. Paul and Barnabas were horrified. They tore their clothes and rushed into the crowd, insisting they were only men. First Corinthians 3:6-7 makes the same point: one plants, another waters, but it is God who gives the increase. The preacher, the church, the ministry, the mission -- none of these are the source. They are instruments. A craftsman's hammer does not deserve the credit for a masterpiece. The craftsman does. Today, examine whether you are worshiping the gift or the Giver.
