The Sufficiency of Christ - Day 3: God Cleanses the Heart
Day 3: God Cleanses the Heart
Reading: Psalm 51:10 and 1 John 1:7
Devotional:
Religion has always been tempted to focus on the outside. Clean up the behavior. Follow the rituals. Keep the rules. But Peter declared in Acts 15 that God cleansed the hearts of the Gentiles by faith, not by external conformity. God is always after something deeper than conduct. He is after the heart. A polished exterior with an unclean interior is not salvation. It is performance. David understood this when he cried out asking God to create in him a clean heart. That cleansing does not come through moral effort or religious discipline. It comes through faith in the One whose blood, according to 1 John 1:7, purifies from all sin.
