Day 4: Grace That Cannot Be Earned

Peter's conclusion in Acts 15 was direct: neither the Jewish believers nor the Gentile converts were saved by keeping the law. Both were saved by grace. The Napoleon story captures the point perfectly. A mother pleading for her condemned son was told he did not deserve mercy. She replied that if he deserved it, it would not be mercy. Grace is not God finally deciding you have done enough. Grace is God giving what you could never deserve. You do not come to God presenting a resume of good deeds. You come admitting you do not have one sufficient enough. Titus 3 confirms it plainly: He saved us not by works we have done, but according to His mercy.
